International Women’s Day
International Women's Day is celebrated in many countries around the world. It is a day when women are recognized for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.
Last week we went around the office and asked the men “what does International Women’s Day mean to you?” A few of their responses below.
"If women didn't exist, all the money in the world would have no meaning. Therefore, International Women’s Day should be the #1 International Holiday in the world."
"Women’s day. Isn’t that a made up holiday to get back at men for forgetting Valentine’s Day? #joke. Honestly women are the best. The world is better because of women. Mothers, sisters, grandmas are the best people on the planet. The world is better with the amazing women in our lives. I owe everything to the awesome women in my life, without them my life would be miserable. #realanswer"
"It’s the celebration of a movement; it’s the recognition of women. Personally, it is a day to offer my respect and gratitude to all the special women that have touched my life; But honestly I think there’s no need for an International Women’s Day, we have come a long way since the first International Women’s Day, but still things are the same, domestic violence and equality are still an issue; International Women’s Day should be celebrated every day."
"International Women’s Day means a great deal to me because strong women have surrounded and shaped me all my life. From my Swiss grandmother who came to America in 1948, to my mom who raised four kids as a single mom, and to my own wife, who has endured the ups and downs of life with me for nearly 22 years, I’m a better person because of the strong nurturing of women. And as the father of four distinctly different daughters, I hope I can continue to raise strong women too!"
How will you mark International Women’s Day? Celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women – but don’t forget we still have a long way to go.
