Start The New Year on the Right Track

The New Year is almost in full swing, with most of us soon returning to the office and
real life next week, after a hiatus filled with celebrations, vacations and lazy days. And tucked away in our back pockets are those pesky little New Year’s resolutions…

Tell us: How will you stay committed to that New Year’s resolution? Is the thought of how you will better yourself (and/or your business) a daunting task? Do you find yourself asking, “Who am I fooling?” No worries.

Sticking to your goals for 2016 isn’t as hard as you think! With these easy tips we’ve compiled, we’re here to get you through the year while still keeping your New Year’s resolutions (and your business) intact![wc_spacing size=”20px”]

Set Goals

Take time to sit down and write out your goals for the next year. People who do are 42% more likely to achieve them.

Keep it simple, think of one important goal for yourself in each of these key areas that will make a big difference in your life: Relationships, Career, Finance, Health and Fitness.

Here are a few examples of what it might look like: improve friendships (girls’ lunch or night out once a month), advancement at work (promotion), save $5k, do yoga for stress management, or something as simple as an oath to stop drinking soda.

Challenge yourself

Let’s face it: if you want to grow, you have to leave your comfort zone. It’s not easy but it’ll get you where you want to go. Start small.

Not a fan of public speaking? Practice with friends and family, and aim to speak to a small group of people before you take the plunge speaking to a large group of people.

Sit & be counted

Assert your presence at the next event you attend. While listening, sit tall and lean forward. Make sure to keep eye contact on the presenter so interjecting is easy.

If you’re hosting an event, make sure you have everyone’s attention. Be attentive, position yourself as an expert in your field, and most importantly, have fun.

Pause now and set up a calendar with Facebook marketing goals. Open a Facebook business page, encourage reviews from your customers, and set up online events. Check your inbox daily for leads, and reach out to every new like (each like = a potential lead!).

Make it a team effort

Sometimes you just need some moral support and an extra (friendly) push. A healthy competition among friends provides a great incentive to stay on track. Try setting up a team or get your peers involved by encouraging you to reach your goals for 2016.

Give back

Take on a philanthropic challenge this New Year. From helping grant wishes to ill children, to volunteering at your neighborhood soup kitchen, no kind gesture – no matter how small – goes unnoticed.

Don’t overload yourself

Most of us need to make more changes than we can pull off in one year. Be real with yourself and be selective; choose the most important.

Inevitably, circumstances in life will make it hard for you to reach your goals for 2016.
Our advice: never give up! Have an action plan and be ready. In the words of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, “A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

Helping Foster Children One Costume at a Time

Everyone loves Halloween, especially kids! Halloween is one of the most fun experiences in a young child’s life. It provides lifelong memories, develops self-worth, and allows kids a day of pretending. Unfortunately, many children are unable to participate in this fun, annual experience because they do not have a costume.

In a Halloween costume drive, the MONAT Gratitude Squad‬ collected over 100 new costumes. These costumes were then donated to the Miami Dade County Foster & Adoptive Parent Association during a fun-filled Halloween party that included candy, cookies, chips and refreshments.

For close to three hours, foster parents and their children were able to “shop” and pick out the costume they wanted to be this year for Halloween. While this was an exciting and fun day for the children, the parents were just as thankful as the kids. Collecting Halloween costumes allowed foster parents to save time and money. With some foster families having 5+ children under the age of 10…that’s a lot of time and money saved!

Like you, we want the future to be even bigger! We hope you have enjoyed this first year as much as we have, and we can assure you, this is only the beginning. Together we are unstoppable.

It was a great day of giving back to the community for the MONAT Family. It was spooktacular evening of gratitude!

What Does Naturally-based Mean

What does “naturally-based” mean?

In terms of MONAT products “naturally-based” means we strive to use ingredients that are “close to the source”. This means that we use high-quality botanical extracts, essential oils and vitamins in pleasing and effective formulations. That means we blend natural ingredients with surfactants (for cleansing products), emulsifiers (for creams and lotions) and preservatives (for a product that is free of contaminants and safe to use).

Is MONAT “all natural”? No. And it would serve you best not to use this term.
Let’s talk for a moment about the difference between “all natural” and “naturally-based”.
To fall into the all-natural category would mean that we would be either using natural preservatives whose safety has not been substantiated or the complete lack of preservatives all together. The absence of preservatives would also mean that our products would have a very limited shelf-life and would need to be refrigerated. That alone, would make it difficult for MONAT to exist. Items would have to been expressed shipped cold-packed and that would make the products quite cost prohibitive.

Let’s review the terms introduced in the beginning: surfactant, emulsifiers and preservatives.

One of the functions of a surfactant is to cleanse. A surfactant is any ingredient which reduces the surface tension between water and another liquid or between a liquid and a solid. There are good surfactants and bad surfactants. SLS has caused quite a controversy in recent years as a bad surfactant and linked to possible disease. You will never see SLS in any of MONAT’s products.
To cleanse, a surfactant interposes itself between dirt and the object being cleansed, thus separating the two and allowing for easy rinsing. It’s what makes your cleansers, body washes and bubble baths foam and bubble. Some surfactants are also known as detergents (remember “detergent” is not a dirty word!) There are mild cleansers and harsh cleansers. At MONAT, we use the gentlest and safest surfactant blends possible to effectively cleanse the skin, yet keep it moisturized and comfortable. Without surfactants, our products wouldn’t bubble and face it, most of us associate “foam” with “clean”.

Simply put, an emulsifier is what makes a cream a cream. It’s what “marries” oil and water. An emulsion is created when fine droplets of a liquid are dispersed in a second liquid; both liquids do not mix on their own and must be held together using an emulsifier. A great example of an emulsion is mayonnaise. Mayonnaise is a mixture two liquids that normally can’t be combined. Oil and water is the classic example, but for mayo you are trying to “marry” lemon juice and oil. Emulsifying is done by slowly adding one ingredient to another while simultaneously mixing rapidly. This disperses and suspends tiny droplets of one liquid through another. However, the two liquids would quickly separate again if an emulsifier were not added. Emulsifiers are liaisons between the two liquids and serve to stabilize the mixture. In mayonnaise, the emulsifier is egg yolk, which naturally contains lecithin, a fat emulsifier.

Preservatives are a good thing, you want them to be in your beauty care products.

Preservatives are added to skin, hair and body care products to protect the product and the consumer from the many types of mold, bacteria, yeast and fungus that can grow in a product. These unwelcomed “critters” can compromise the integrity of a product (make it separate, make is smell bad) and can in some cases can hurt you (from skin rashes all the way to blindness).

Most companies use a blend of preservatives to protect against a wide range of contaminants (this is because some preservatives only protect against bacteria, some only get mold and fungus. These blends of preservatives provide us with broad spectrum protection.

It is fairly safe to say that the total preservative blend used in our products is less than 1% of the total formulation, are a natural alternative to synthetic, and are non-toxic to the consumer.

Is naturally based better? Yes! Naturally-based means you get the best of both worlds: a product with ingredients that are as close to the source as possible blended in effective and safe formulations. We will continue to use only high quality botanicals, essential oils and vitamins in MONAT formulations so that you get the most benefit of what the earth has to offer.
