A simple word to summarize our incredible MONATions United 2016 event—our first annual convention.

For so many different reasons—the energy, the new products, the new tools, the palpable sense of a very bright future—MONATions United will be an event to remember for years to come. All who attended can say, “I was at the first-ever MONAT Global convention!”

As the new (as of last week) Director of Communications, I was thrilled to be a part of it. I couldn’t think of a better way to get started. The chance to speak with many Market Partners and sense your commitment and excitement for what we are doing was the perfect introduction to MONAT. It’s great to be a part of this company (family seems like a better word), and many thanks for your welcome!

Having been to numerous events like MONATions United in the last 16 years, I can say without hesitation that this event was second to none. This is what a vibrant, strong, inspired company looks and feels like.

After an amazing event like MONATions United, it can seem anticlimactic to go back to the “daily routine.” Just take the excitement you felt from the event and share what you learned—and felt—with those on your team who couldn’t be there. Have you ever left a beauty salon feeling wonderful and confident, or frustrated and uncomfortable? At the Golden Globes for example, we saw a few really pretty cool hairdos, some of which are not hard to put together at home, like Eva Longoria’s old-fashioned low chignon, Rachel McAdams’ high pouf, and Taraji P. Henson’s messy side coif. We loved these for their elegant simplicity and full of body-ness!

Wave That Ponytail Hello
Who says all ponytails are created equal? It’s time to shake things up, whether you have straight of curly hair.
  • After washing your hair with your favorite MONAT shampoo and conditioner, spray Reshape Root Lifter directly to roots and apply Restyle Instant Sculpting Taffy throughout ends.
  • Whip your hair to the front and blow dry downwards.
  • Divide your hair in medium-sized sections and use a curling iron to shape each one from roots to ends (be careful not to get the iron too close to your scalp).
  • Separate the curls with a flat, thin-bristle brush and hold your hair in a ponytail at desired height, without flattening the top to keep the waves all over.

Time to give your hair and your scalp a breather. Gently remove the tight braids and use MONAT daily to nourish every strand, give your mane a healthy shine, and avoid freeze.

Be daring. Be bold. Be [the real] you. Besides looking cool, a good short avant-garde trim will remove split ends and help your hair gain strength and bounce.

January is Self-Love Month, right before the nationally celebrated month of getting struck by Cupid’s arrow and loving others… Coincidence? We think not : -). We’ve all heard that, to be able to love others, we need to first learn to love ourselves. What a great mindset to start off the New Year! But what is “self-love”, really? We asked colleagues and friends what “loving thyself” meant to them and we got pretty cool responses. Here are a few of our faves:

When you truly love yourself you don’t get the urge to feel superior to others. Instead, you see other people’s experiences as an opportunity to learn about life… And in the end, you’re less judgmental and more compassionate not only towards them, but also towards yourself.
Ironically, I used to “love” myself by not caring about my appearance, because to me, this was a way of “accepting” myself, but I was very shy and insecure and I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror. That all changed once I committed to taking care of my body -from the inside out and from head to toe!
Pamper yourself, exercise, smile to stranger, read a book, open the door for someone, take a break, educate yourself, eat chocolate without guilt, don’t say no to everything or yes to anything… To me, it’s the simplest things that make us feel good about ourselves!
Some people are so proud and think so highly of themselves that they never accept when they’re wrong. I think that when you have self-love, you are confident and brave enough to be humble and say “I’m sorry”.

It’s not about ignoring your flaws, it’s about embracing them… Don’t love yourself despite your imperfections, love yourself with your imperfections!

Start The New Year on the Right Track

The New Year is almost in full swing, with most of us soon returning to the office and
real life next week, after a hiatus filled with celebrations, vacations and lazy days. And tucked away in our back pockets are those pesky little New Year’s resolutions…

Tell us: How will you stay committed to that New Year’s resolution? Is the thought of how you will better yourself (and/or your business) a daunting task? Do you find yourself asking, “Who am I fooling?” No worries.

Set Goals

Take time to sit down and write out your goals for the next year. People who do are 42% more likely to achieve them.

Keep it simple, think of one important goal for yourself in each of these key areas that will make a big difference in your life: Relationships, Career, Finance, Health and Fitness.

Here are a few examples of what it might look like: improve friendships (girls’ lunch or night out once a month), advancement at work (promotion), save $5k, do yoga for stress management, or something as simple as an oath to stop drinking soda.

Challenge yourself

Let’s face it: if you want to grow, you have to leave your comfort zone. It’s not easy but it’ll get you where you want to go. Start small.

Not a fan of public speaking? Practice with friends and family, and aim to speak to a small group of people before you take the plunge speaking to a large group of people.

Sit & be counted

Assert your presence at the next event you attend. While listening, sit tall and lean forward. Make sure to keep eye contact on the presenter so interjecting is easy.

If you’re hosting an event, make sure you have everyone’s attention. Be attentive, position yourself as an expert in your field, and most importantly, have fun.

Pause now and set up a calendar with Facebook marketing goals. Open a Facebook business page, encourage reviews from your customers, and set up online events. Check your inbox daily for leads, and reach out to every new like (each like = a potential lead!).

Make it a team effort

Sometimes you just need some moral support and an extra (friendly) push. A healthy competition among friends provides a great incentive to stay on track. Try setting up a team or get your peers involved by encouraging you to reach your goals for 2016.

Give back

Take on a philanthropic challenge this New Year. From helping grant wishes to ill children, to volunteering at your neighborhood soup kitchen, no kind gesture – no matter how small – goes unnoticed.

Don’t overload yourself

Most of us need to make more changes than we can pull off in one year. Be real with yourself and be selective; choose the most important.

Inevitably, circumstances in life will make it hard for you to reach your goals for 2016.
Our advice: never give up! Have an action plan and be ready. In the words of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, “A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

  • Wash with Revive Shampoo and follow with Revitalize Conditioner.
  • While still damp, apply Restyle Instant Sculpting Taffy to hair ends and blow dry upwards using a large round brush.
  • Finish by spraying Refinish Control Hairspray all over hair.

  • Wash with Revive Shampoo and follow with Restore Leave-In Conditioner.
  • While still damp, apply Reshape Root Lifter to hair roots and Restyle Instant Sculpting Taffy to hair ends.
  • Tilt your head to the front and blow dry downwards, from the back to the front.
  • Divide your hair in sections and use a curling iron to shape your curls; then separate andstyle the curls with your fingers.
  • Spray Refinish Control Hairspray all over hair while gently scrunching with your hands.
